THE thing I am worst at, bar none, is working out expected time on a project. My friend's method, where he used to work was to take 10 people, get them all to predict the expected time, pick the longest time, then change the units: thus a 1 day project would take a 1 week, a 1 week project, 1 month, a 1 month project, 1 year..
He claimed 90% success, which is quite depressing. It is my impression that the vast majority of pro folks here are essentially one man shops, so consulting a team of 10 is rather hard work. How DO you predict this time element ? Steve |
