some of the SILabs chips have a 5V to uC voltage converter LDO built in. I have looked it up. I didn't read the entire datasheet, but on the surface it looks suitable, which is why I asked. I have been fooled by "optimistic" datasheets once already, so an opinion from someone with experience with the C8051F53x would be welcome :) PS SILabs have some chipw with very low power "wake up by watchdog" modes Thanks, another option to explore.
