An another reason for making a "private" repository would be to have the appropriate datasheets and erratas for different revisions of the same chip.

Some companies have the unfortunate practice to revise a chip and simultaneously remove documentation for the old revision (possibly containing a bug report).

This is not needed because of designing with the old chip, but to know, if a lately discovered bug in the system might be a consequence of using an older revision of the chip (been there).


I would still be concerned about the copyrights, though. Any lawyer here?
