#112590 - There was a time ...
Responding to: ???'s previous message
There was a time when datasheets were not only correct but complete. No, they didn't contain app-notes, which are notoriously wrong anyway, but they did contain instruction set details and relevant timing information.

I'm of the opinion that a datasheet should contain everything applicable to correct use of a component. I've found that, espcially with 805x versions, this is not the case, yet the basic information relevant to the proper usage of the device is no longer published by the original manufacturer.

I've noted that the document to which many refer as "the bible" is actually not from the original manufacturer. Has anyone actually gone through the original document and compared the Philips version with it in order to ensure that there are no deviations or omissions?

I think it's very wrong for a manufacturer to make assumptions regarding what an end-user knows when creating his datasheet. The datasheet should contain the correct value of every parameter associated with every signal, and it should precisely define every detail associated with every instruction. If it is deemed more practical to refer to a separate document common to a group of such details, that document should certainly be readily available. That's not always the case.

As far as 805x cores are concerned, that information should be readily avaialble somewhere, and verified to be both general and correct before being published. That's not an easy job. As for that table, which attempts to list and describe the then-current 805x variants, I think some text should be provided somewhere, explaining just exactly what each parameter represents, and how it was determined. That would increase confidence in its dependability.
