How do you want to pick up the signal from the engine? Most motorbikes I work on get it from the low voltage side of the ignition coil, however, you can pick it up capacitively from the ignition lead by placing a wire close to it. Why not get a commercial tachometer, open it and see how they do it? I suggest you do a search on the internet - there's quite a few tachometer circuits with code - maybe not for an 8051, but the basics are the same. |
