Yes, it can be done with a 12Mhz crystal, or many other frequencies for that matter. As to whether you measure period of frequency - it depends on what your requirements are - if you measure frequency, the result is averaged over time, whereas the period you get a measurement each revolution which needs to be averaged over a number of samples. I prefer to use period measurement, as it is more suited to fuel injection. |
