If the app is as simple as what you "distill" it to, the I have totally misread the OP. The fuzzy part of both the programming and the description makes me doubt.

You could be right. I don't know anything about artificial limb movement, etc. but it seems to me that it's more likely that the plan to use fuzzy logic is more misplaced than the selection of a '51 part.

My understanding of nerve transmission is that the information that nerves carry travel at up to 100 meters per second. That means, in theory, it takes about 0.01 seconds for a message to travel from the brain to the beginning of the leg. If you have an A/D converter taking care of the inputs at 1,000 samples per second, that's still 10 samples for during every period of time that it takes a nerve message to reach its destination.

Again, I'm no expert in this field. But just running the numbers quickly and roughly (and completely uninformed) in my head gave me the impression that it's not necessarily something that requires more computing power... as long as the program that handles the input is well written. And fuzzy logic probably wouldn't help get things done in the time available--but again, I'm not convinced fuzzy logic is the way to go.

Or I could be wrong about all of this! :)

Craig Steiner
