If you use flow control, you could still possibly use the 4051. As for the 56K business, modems use compression scemes. Most notibly are 4:1 (v42bis) and 6:1(V44). This means that a 57600 serial port rate is not fast enough for a 33600 connection or higher with out flow control or a faster serial speed when compression is used (it usually is unless 300 - 1200 baud speeds are used.) |
