Has anyone had any succes building a programmer for Atmel's flash 8051 family of microcontrollers? I am specifically interested in programming the AT89C2051 chip, or the 1051. I was hoping to save some money by building one of these things myself rather than buying a commercial one (a poor computer science student). I have downloaded Atmel's application notes on how to build a programmer for the AT89 series, but I am pretty new to electronics (have more of a programming background) and I'm not too sure I fully understand the schematics that accompany the document.

Has anyone else been able to build one of these? Did it work?

Any help that anyone can offer on the subject would be appreciated.
