#2251 - RE: Address decoding to write Flash or RAM
"Been there, done that, tossed it..."

I designed such a system that worked great. However I tossed it because it wasn't production-viable due to the trend in memory devices.

The memory chip market is lead by laptop computers' need for ever larger flash and ram devices. Microcontroller embedded system designs don't interest the chip manufacturers much anymore - we don't attract volume business.

Gigantic memory devices don't fit well with 8051s in my opinion. While the bank switching solution I designed was great, I realized that it wasn't what 8051's do best. I went with an entirely different architecture.

While I can't send you my design or talk specifically about it (its company "intellectual property") I can tell you that *** there is more *** to solve than just the pin layout. You should get to know the op-code set well before you choose such an architecture.

Good Luck,
-Jay C. Box
