You could have a look at the Waferscale PSD products, I was working on a project like this, but the PSD devices made my design much easier, just a 8051 and a PSD 813.
You get FLASH, RAM, EEPROM, PLD's etc all in one chip, and the support H/W is cheap $99 with two free sample devices. |
