Given the almost incestuous relations between processor families, th e 8052/Z80 argument goes back too far now to argue over.

Me, I always used Intel designs. But then I didn't leave high school til 1982, and the Z80 was passed its "prime" by then....

The 8051 was faster than the Z80 it began to replace for embedded apps back in the early 80s. Zilog retaliated of course, but then the 8051 was second sourced by so many people and its internal architecture is so easy to extend that ultimately it has pulled ahead.

I like the Aduc, never played with one because AD never sent me the free sample they promised, but I like the EZ-USB chip as well, and most of the Dallas variants.

If the Z80 is superior, which variant gives ADUC performance ? ;-)
