You might find it educational to look up the information on CP/M on the www, of which there's a great deal, including source code for the file system and the entire operating system, of which the original is written in PL/M, which is easily translated to 'C' and which is quite easily readable, as well as the "translated version" in ASM for the i8080, if you want to understand how it works.
