First, you certainly would not expect me, the C-hater, to adopt your half-breed code... :-) I adopted it to pure asm.

Now the results. I tried Philips/NXP/(SST) P89V51RD2, Atmel AT89S52, Temic T89C51RD2 (of the confusing era of these chips being labeled as Atmel but without the AT prefix), and, with the highest hopes of being non-biblical, the Ramtron Versa VRS51L3074. The results are purely biblical behaviour even at the "out-of-range" inputs, contrary to the SiLabs.
