Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions, I really appreciate it.
I've decided to purchase the parts from Mouser, as they also have some other parts I need for quite a bit cheaper than the similar ones I found at Digikey. Even after paying for 15 dollar shipping, I still save money so it all worked out in the end. I might be able to team up with some fellow students (as suggested) as well so that might save us a few bucks too. About surplus parts, I spent a few years in the avionics industry where surplus parts are a big no-no and I guess some of that mentality still sticks with me. The idea of using parts I don't know where came from or what condition it was in, doesn't appeal to me. Thanks again to everyone! If you wish maybe I'll keep you updated on the progress of my project. It's not due to be finished until April next year, but I hope to get started on some of the basic software and hardware this August. |
