No sir it is not so.
The divide by two is because of divide by two network where as the divide by 12 is because of machine cycle. Eh??? [update] These are not separate and unrelated things! The divide-by-12 for the machine cycle includes the divide-by-two due to the "divide-by-two network" [/update] You originally said: Avishek Kumar said: (my emphasis)
... the frequency signal of 11.0592MHz is first divided by this mod two counter, and then fed to internal circuitary where it gets divided by 12 because of its internal machine cycle.
http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=113796 This is incorrect, as it would mean a total division by 24! Again, please refer to page 11 in Chapter 1 of the so-called "bible" for the 8051: Chapter 1 http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/acrobat/v...ARCH_1.pdf Machine Cycles
A machine cycle consists of a sequence of 6 states, numbered S1 through S6. Each state time lasts for two oscillator periods. Thus a machine cycle takes 12 oscillator periods or 1us if the oscillator frequency is 12MHz. The division by 2 represents the fact that Each state time lasts for two oscillator periods; The fact that there are then 6 states per machine cycle accounts for the fact that a machine cycle takes 12 oscillator periods. |
