First, you should be using an 8051 derivative.
Second, the logic in the HD44780 IC will work fine at 3v3 but the contrast will be horrible. Rather than make a 5v voltage supply, consider converting +3v3 to - one or two volts and apply that to the bottom end of the contrast control (resistors/pot/whatever). We do this and it works great. GB |
