In my point of view ULNs are more reliable than discrete transistors. I meant if even they burn it wuold be easier to replace the defected chip. In my experience ULNs donot burn instantly if you short circuit their output throught a low impedance to VCC (Depends on many things such as VCC,Is , Etc) .
Erik you were the one who told I use 74HC buffers and they survive short circuits. Farshid |
