Yes - this thing is using the PIC's on-chip debug hardware support, and a "debugger" (a piece of software running on the PC) to give you access to it - see: http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=107277

Other 8051 derivatives that give you this include some of the uPSDs, the Zylogic ZE5 (nee Triscend E5), and the Analog Devices ADuC8xx
