That's what the board was designed to work with. Perhaps I've just been lucky, but when Digikey was out of stock of the specified LCD I purchased alternate LCDs and they, too, worked. 
 I think the problem here is assuming there is a universal standard. I did some Googling and I do see a number of pages that indicate the reversed pinout. But the SBC was built to the above datasheet which definitely indicates a pin 1 of Vcc and pin 2 as ground, and it has worked with a number of alternate LCDs that I've acquired from Digikey. http://www.8052.com/forumchat/read/149413 |
