Especially with batteries like NiCd, NiMH, etc - where the voltage drop-off is very steep indeed near the end of discharge.
This means that there is only a small incremental gain to be had by lowering the operting voltage - which could easily be negated by inefficiencies during the "flat" (majority) part of the discharge curve... Also, I beleive, Li-Ion batteries can be damaged (destroyed?) by over-discharging? |
