Actually, thermistors have been used to limit inrush currents for a very, very long time!
 Back in the days of thermionic valves ("tubes"), it was quite common to use a thermistor to limit the surge of current into the cold filaments ("heaters") - which was a common cause of failures at switch-on...  |
