Many of the off-the-shelf LCD glass displays have things like the colons for a clock and low-battery symbols built into them, though one isn't required to use them. A decimal point, or even all of them could be of use to indicate various bits of status. However, off-the-shelf glass doesn't charge extra for the battery symbol, if it happens to be there.
