Is there max number of COM ports that windows can deal with?
I do not know for sure but believe the max is 255. I, on my PC, have 11 so I can vouch for that number being possible. One problem you may encounter is that the 'cheap method' of configuring an USB port to run as a serial does not work above COM9 - had a lot of fun with that one, about a dozen people were mystified till someone realized "this driver can not co beyond COM9".
