Micrel bought KENDIN, which made a device intended for the SOHO switch market. It was an KS86-something or other, (details on a different machine) which is an ARM-9 with 6 ethernet PHY's, IIRC, one bound to one MAC, and the other five bound to the other through a switch matrix, along with the usual stuff one wants in order to run LINUX, i.e. SDRAM and FLASH/SRAM memory interfaces, serial link, etc. IIRC that priced at about $18 back then in 10K units/yr. You just had to hook up the FLASH and the SDRAM, and the ethernet stuff, and away you go! The SRAM timing was an issue that remained unresolved when I ended my involvment there.
