 http://home.btconnect.com/akldb/PDF/Blumlein.pdf has the theory. Thus, if you use a line about 30 cms long, you will get a pulse about 4 nanoseconds wide, and capable of delivering V^2/R joules. That sounds impressive Steve. These are still used in high power RF applications, like radar.
