Hi Jim,
You say your code doesn't work...what exactly isn't working? Is it not compiling? If so, do you have your chip's header file #included which defines all the SFRs to the compiler? Is it not working once the chip is programmed? One thing I noticed, or rather didn't notice, was the code to start the T1 baud rate generator: TR1=1; Is your code interrupt driven or polled? Setting TI would activate your transmit ISR if present. If you just want to send something (assuming T1 is running) you can just load SBUF.
