#90550 - Nothing wrong with DIL
Responding to: ???'s previous message

that many derivatives are not avalilable.

There are .1" pinning PLCC44 sockets available and using one such would enhance the number of possible devices. I know of no derivative (except ancients) that is avaialable in DIL and not in PLCC. ...

Erik,

Nothing's wrong with DIL, on the contrary, I would say. And yes, PLCC is a nice alternative, since you still have sockets for those kinds of packages and as such can place and replace a processor in an easy way, should it be necessary.

Someone mentioned adapter sockets, that would create total havoc if the frequency was anything significant.

You're pointing at a statement I made some replies above. And you're right if indeed the frequency would be a problem. But do you think at speeds of --let's say-- 20MHz, using an adaptor would cause so much damage?

We're not talking about the GHz, as they are being used for Intel processors.

Best rgds,
