Thanks for your suggestion. Yes I did think about that angle of files being marked as "read only" . But in this case the particular copy of the FM on CD-Rom was successfully installed and used by my engineer in another site last month.

I was just wondering if due to handling, the CD-Rom develops some scratches and if this affects the data integrity. Assuming it does, does'nt the installer check for data integrity before proceeding with the install ?

PS : Hi Jan, I could have tried the 89c51rd2 as suggested except that I didn't have it available and the nearest loaction where I could get it was 8 hrs away..
