But peter, I am using 89C2051 to control AC motor and other load, I had coded before for active high. And at power on reset all output should be low as per my code. But was facing the same limitation as jack is explained. Your point is also very obvious and understanding that nothing can be told about i/o states until reset performs fully.
Now I changed my code to active low output. This way all devices will remain OFF while reset and even after reset, because they are high during reset and I kept them high in my code as well, until ON command performs and appropriate output goes low, which make the external device ON.
