#111085 - Bluetooth Serial Responding to: ???'s previous message |
You can get Bluetooth modules that hook up to a serial port (usually at both ends). They are somewhat goofy as you either need to configure them with crazy button presses on one button (like setting the time on a digital watch, but without the LCD to look at) or by reserving ASCII string values to trip the unit into config mode. Pairing is likewise painful. They also use a lot of power. They have come down a lot in price.
I would recommend NordicRF or Cypress and perhaps investigate ANT or Squeak (sp?) protocols. I think Squeak runs on Zigbee hardware, but I'm not sure. Cypress has some protocols that are almost ready to go out-of-the-box but they crippled themselves by using a PSoC for the uC so the source code requires porting. Nordic also has some protocols, check out their Yahoo Group. GB |
