Hi!
Try giving the setb p3.5 -command after the external circuitry releases pull-down or use a external pull-up resistor. The setb -command drives the internal weak pull-up for only 2 oscillator periods to start the stronger pull-up. The stronger pull-up is wired so that it will turn off if externally pulled low.
