Definitely, there are situations when this way of addressing is just what we need. If you have an array of 1-byte elements, then it is very convenient to put its base address in DPTR, and read the desired element by first placing the offset in A. That way, there is no need for adjusting DPTR, it points all the time to the first element, only offset is changed.
