When the display generation incorporates "interlacing"; NTSC is formally considered 720x480 if expressed in possible pixels. My work to date with interlacing doesn't result in a display quality i personally would enjoy working with. 320 X 240 is the usually held limit for generality of TV displays. A NTSC "frame" is composed of the equivalent of 262.5 lines. Subtracting VSync lines and leaving some blank area above and below the video display make 240 a practical "max" for NTSC targets. If you've visited the video page you've seen the TV i use as my target. To provide for generality of TV devices and best geometry, the platform video for TV use is 256x192 (32x24-VGA8). A side benefit is lot's of time for the foreground during "Sync/Black/Blank lines" Security and other non-TV NTSC Targets do often make provision for more lines. regards, p |
