even with resistors like Kai suggested, you may still have a problem. When making my 1 kV electrometer I had to go through many resistor "samples" to find some that were not greatly affected by humidity. This is so long ago that I do not recall what brand I used, just that they were orange. Anyhow, basically this is to alert you to the problems with high ohm, high voltage and humidity.
