The triac I'm using is a T810-600 which has a 10mA gate current (see STM website. I'm getting 200mA or more going somewhere without the triac triggering.

I've used the SCR-zener crowbar in the past for a high reliability project, but the problem with this circuit is that the tolerance on the trip voltage is poor.
