It's not so much GCC itself - the paid-for ones that use GCC can be fine.

The problem is, in my opinion/observation, to get debugging with the freebies.


From the research I've done and the info you have provided I tend to agree with you. Many (Most??) of the paid tool chains are using the GCC tool for the compilation.

I want to wait and see what Per has to say regarding his debugging scenario.
