There's a company that makes complete switch-mode regulators in TO-220 packages to match the standard 78xx linear regulator pinouts.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the name at the moment...

I tend to recall seing some "tripods" (do not recall if TO-220 size) once looking through their offerings.

PS the power trends offerings are (were?) so badly organized that finding just what you need is (was?) a chore - but sometimes worth it.
