As Joseph says, the flux should take care of "normal" oxidation.
http://www.8052.com/forumchat/read.phtml?id=141271 For heavy tarnishing, I use something like Scotch-Brite: Over here, you can get similar stuff in any household store as scouring pads for washing dishes - just be sure not to get anything with any dishwashing soap, detergent, or anything else in it!
