There are other theoretical possibilities when using a PC as a base for a measurement device such as an oscilloscope (and I am not talking here on standalone oscilloscopes with embedded PC, but a desktop PC plus a "box" or a card). With a smart system, you might have scriptability, controlling and post-processing plugins, quick storing and moving around the data, remote control of all thinkable way almost out-of-the-box, remote display. However, the major drawback - lack of the knobs and buttons - besides the other minor nuisances, is a definitive showstopper. I know it is relatively easy to mount a couple of knobs and buttons on the box (with the card form this is of course prohibitively impractical), but apparently, nobody does that... JW |
