#130574 - The hobbiest rides again... |
I guess my pathetic attempts at perfboarding and wirewrapping in front of the TV while our 2 year old runs around have been noticed by my darling wife. My Xmas present arrived from Europe the other day, a 8051 development board / USB programmer. :-)
I haven't had a chance to do much with it yet. It comes with a 89S8253 preprogrammed with blinky. I was going to try programming a 89S52 with it. I guess they worry about the chip coming out of the socket in transit, it's jammed in there so tight I can't even get a jewler's screwdriver under it. I'm going to have to find my IC puller and do it right. But anyhow... The question I have is: What side effects can I expect from piggybacking a 40 pin ZIF socket in the existing 40 pin socket. I really don't want to try reworking the board to remove the socket and add the ZIF. I'm assuming it might add a little noise, and a few pf's extra capacitance, and perhaps cause problems at higher clock speeds. But it seems like a no brainer in terms of avoiding bent pins. Thoughts?
