For 3.5..6kW stoves even 7mA are allowed, which the human body must be able to withstand, when the protecive earth shows a fault. So, you could have connected ten of such leaky "saftey class II" devices and would result in "only" 5mA.
 High leakage currents can be seen with devices that contain a mains filter, where a couple of Y-caps are connected to signal ground to improve the filtering performance. Such devices usullay contain a SMPS being directly connected to mains, like it can be seen with tv-sets etc. With other consumer electronics devices only the interwinding capacitance of mains transformer counts, which is hardly higher than 1nF, resulting in a leakage current of less than 0.1mA. But your are right, this leakage current can be painful sometimes... Kai  |
