Nothing is BETTER. Each chip has its +'s and -'s as you said above. Sometimes, you can find an application where some particular chip exactly fits, but that's quite rare. Most of the time it's personal preference.

Once I asked the contributors of a local HW mailing list/forum to list the + and - for each mcu family, WITHOUT trying to compare them. Then I compiled a list from the responses. The most often repeated argument - in each family, but from different people - was: "I don't like them"...
