 Also, one can perhaps want to compare the expected endurance to harsh environment, long-term reliability, probability of bug in FW, and such. The "hardware" solution might turn out to be better in these respects. But, I stress again, such requirements are quite rare and the "sub$1 LPC" is a valid solution probably most of the time. The SC16IS752's are to be sold for around $2-3 in volume according to Philips and are quoted at $5.something at Avnet (but I don't know what is the volume basis for that, I suspect 1). |
