#103751 - beautiful tig welds Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Steve:
You are correct about the properties of a tig weld they are awesome clean and give a real satisfaction. Most of my welding is equipment prototype (work) heavy equipment repair (side business) or sheet metal into a vehicle that I am restoring (hobby). It is steel and I can and do get excellent results with a mig set up. Tig is too finicky for the conditions under which most of my light welds need to be done. I do not have the time to tig 3/4 plate onto an excavator boom but a 450 amp wire feed makes short work of it. Your vehicle project leaves you with little choice. Someday I will set up for tig probably a suitcase inverter giving me a light portable multi input voltage stick machine as well as the tig. I have tig welded a fair bit over the years and do respect the effort needed to get good results Terry |
