For the toroid - yes the hall effect device is an analog device for measuring DC current - not for ignitions! Sounds like the toroid is the easiest method. I see no reason why it would not work. The toroids I've normally used are powdered iron types whereas the E & I are usually ferrite. I can't remember much about the differences! Maybe someone else can impart some knowlege here. We're not after particularly high frequency and linearity is not a concern. Just a thought - find an old PC power supply - they'll have an E & I for the main transformer and hopefully some toroids - that should give you something to play with for $0. |
