What do you mean by no isolators? You should atleast use a MAX232 or something simular
Max 232 et al are not "isolators" they are "transcievers". The prescence or not of a transciever will not affect whether he blows the PC serial port. Of course a transciever MUST be present. What he (should) mean by "isolator" is using an isolated RS232 transciever such as MAX251/MAX3250. there are loads of RS232 buffers (gender changer style) out there I have never seen such a thing. However such a device will not necessarily be isolated. If you decide to use one, at least make sure you get an isolated one (NO connection between ground and ground. Erik |
