#91464 - Seven Segment Displays Driven By 8051 |
I have six large (4"x2") seven segment displays that I would like to display info on from the 8051. They are common cathode type Displays. I have successfully muxed these using the 74LS373 so that I can use one Port to control all six but am having trouble actually hooking them up. They require a substantial amount of current to work. I can drive them with an outboard 12V power supply that should supply enough current but cannot figure out how to wire them. I thought that if I sent 12V to each of the two common cathodes on each display, then hooked up the outputs of eachj of the six '373 to a different display I could get them to turn on/off this way. Essentially, the 80-51 would create a ground for the displays when the pins on the Port were set low. It does not appear to be working. Am I missing something? |
