I GUESS the strobes are to keep the current requirements during the write cycle to sensible levels - thermal printers take a hell of a current. The thermistor monitors the head temperature and allows the current used to fire the head to be calibrated - hot heads need much less power than cold ones, perhaps shorter pulses ?
