The sensor you have is a reluctor, not a Hall sensor, like Russell says. If you can fit a Hall switch, you might be better off, or perhaps a small pick-off coil wrapped on a toroid with an ignition lead running thorugh the middle. If you have to, then run the existing signal through an LM311 comparator, but be careful with noise and thresholds.
